Year after year millions of us make resolutions at the start of the new year. Despite the best of intentions millions fail to accomplish their goals. It doesn’t have to be this way.
What are we doing wrong?
There are countless goals we make. We all want to eat better and exercise more. We want to improve our finances. All of these things are great positive goals, but how do we start? How do we turn our goals into reality?
More often than not we fail to reach our goals because we fail at follow through. I’m gonna run 100 miles today. I’m gonna loose 20 pounds this week. Unrealistic goals are hardly ever reached. Attempting unrealistic goals will most certainly frustrate us and lead to a lack of motivation and follow through. Simply put we feel it’s too big, too hard, too overwhelming and so we give up.
So what can we do?
It is widely agreed by researchers that smaller tasks are easier to process than one big job. It is also important to understand what it means to have a goal. It means deciding to start and complete a task or achieve an outcome within a specific period of time. With this understanding it’s easier to recognize when we are setting unrealistic goals and therefore setting ourselves up for failure.
Gigantic accomplishments can be made if we split our wishes into smaller more manageable task and then assign a reasonable time period in wish to complete the task. This sounds very simple and straightforward but like most things of value it requires practice. Start with something small follow it to completion then rinse and repeat. “KISS” Keep it super simple. Soon you will be reaching goals you never thought possible. Happy New Year!
